What is a domain name?
Domain names are the familiar, easy to remember names for computers on the Internet. They
correspond to a series of numbers called Internet Protocol numbers (IP address) that serve
as routing addresses on the Internet. Domain names are used generally as a convenient way
of locating information and reaching others on the Internet. Here are some domain names
you might be already familiar with:

What is an IP address?
Every computer on the Internet has a numeric address called IP Address that
is used to identify the location of the computer. An example of an IP address
is 66.192.185.108 . This kind of addressing system is cumbersome and hard to
remember for humans. Having a domain name will eliminate the need to remember
an IP address.
What is a DNS?
DNS stands for "Domain Name Server". It translates domain names into IP
addresses that computers understand. For example, if someone wants to access
hostingataplus.com's website (http://hostingataplus.com), the DNS will translate the domain
into the IP address 66.192.185.108 , which will allow the computer to locate
hostingataplus.com's web server.
What is a URL?
It stands for Universal Resource Locator. Some people refer to it as a web address. An

Country Codes
Two letter domains, such as .uk, .de and .jp, are called country code top level
domains (ccTLDs) and correspond to a country, territory, or other geographic
location. The rules and policies for registering domain names in the ccTLDs
vary significantly and some are reserved for use by citizens of the corresponding
country. You should check with the registrar offering various registration services
regarding the specific terms and conditions for registration.
Second level domains
To the left of the top-level domain is what is called the "second-level

rapid resolution of technical problems and to permit enforcement of consumer protection,
trademark, and other laws. This information is available to the public through the
"Whois" service.

cheapest in the world.
What if the name I want to use is already taken?
You can choose an alternative domain name, or if you feel that you have mor
of a right to that domain name, you could follow the domain dispute policy and
try to regain your domain name.
How long does it take to register a domain name?
The domain registration is completed as soon hostingataplus.com receives the completed
registration form and payment has been received. The registration process is
very quick. A confirmation email is sent to the administrative contact with
the details of the domain registration.
NOTE: The zone files, which make the Internet work, are updated twice
daily, 7 days a week, beginning at 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Requests
received and completed by these times will be included in the next zone file
update. However, your newly created/modified record may not be visible in the
WHOIS database for 24-48 hours, sometimes 72 hours from the time of the zone
file is updated.
How long does a registration last? Can it be renewed?
A domain name can be registered in one-year increments, with a total registration
period limit of ten years. Existing registrations can be renewed at anytime
if the domain is currently in an active status. hostingataplus recommends one

How do I renew my domain registration?
If you purchased your Domain with us then, you can renew your domain by
contacting the support department of hostingataplus.com

and request that we renew your domain registration
for a specific number of years. Please note, the maximum length of registration
for a domain is 10 years. If you regestered your Domain elsewhere, you
wil need to contact your registor
How do I modify an existing domain name record?
You can update your administrative, billing, technical contact's name, address,
email address, phone number, and fax number by email

If you wish to change your primary and secondary name servers, there will be
a charge which is stated in our terms and conditions.
How do I sell/give/transfer ownership of my domain to another
person/company?

with your domain name and password to request the change of Registrant. There
is a administrative fee for this service. We will provide you with a
form to fill out by both parties involved in the change of registrant. The form
requires notarization and the original signed and stamped version must be mailed
to hostingataplus.com directly.
What is a Registrant?
The entity, organisation, or individual listed as the owner of the domain name is known as
the registrant.
What is a Registrar?
The organisation responsible for the actual registration of the domain name is known as
the registrar.
What is Registry?
The organisation responsible for the actual administration and maintenance to a top-level
domain is known as the registry. ICANN is the new non-profit corporation that is assuming
this responsibility from the U.S. Government for co-ordinating certain Internet technical
functions, including the management of Internet domain name system. More information about
ICANN can be found at http://www.icann.org.
Who is the Administrative Contact?
The Administrative Contact is the person or organisation authorised by the domain name
registrant to act on behalf of the legal entity listed as the owner of the domain name.
The Administrative Contact should be able to answer non-technical questions about the
legal entity's plans for using the domain name and the procedures for establishing
sub-domains.
Who is the Billing Contact?
The Billing Contact is the person or organisation who will be invoiced for registrations
and renewals of the domain name.
Who is the Technical Contact?
Generally, the Technical Contact is the person or organisation who maintains
the domain name registrant's primary name server, resolves software, and database
files. The Technical Contact person keeps the name server running and interacts
with technical people in other domains to solve problems that affect the domain
name. A Website host often performs this role. If the Technical or Billing Contact
information is missing from the Registration Agreement, it will be presumed
that the domain name registrant has authorised the Administrative Contact/Agent
to perform those roles.
